Tyreek Hill's 40 time

Tyreek Hill's recorded 40-yard dash is 4.29 seconds, run at West Alabama's Pro Day in 2016 (his two runs were 4.28 to 4.29, with a 1.50 10-yard split). He was not invited to the NFL Combine, so he has no Combine 40.

These numbers are estimates from a sprint velocity curve fitted to Usain Bolt's official Berlin 2009 splits. A 40 is timed from first movement and often by hand, so football 40s convert to optimistic 100m times. How the estimate works

A Pro Day 40 and no Combine time

Hill worked out at West Alabama's Pro Day in 2016 after the league passed on inviting him to Indianapolis. DraftScout lists his 40 at 4.29 (both runs in the 4.28 to 4.29 range) with a 1.50 10-yard split. Pro Day timing is less standardized than the Combine's electronic finish, so his 4.29 is fast but less certain than a Combine 4.29 would be.

Tyreek Hill's track times

As a Georgia high school senior in May 2012, Hill ran 20.14 for 200m at the Golden South Classic in Orlando with a legal +1.8 m/s wind, which ESPN reported as the second-fastest high school 200m ever at the time. Earlier the same day he ran 10.19 in the 100m prelims (ESPN did not report the wind).

Our model turns a 4.29 40 into roughly a 9.8 100m, but Hill's best is 10.19. Part of the difference is timing. A 40 starts on the athlete's own movement with no gun to react to, and a Pro Day clock is started by hand, which is why football 40s convert to flattering track times.

How fast is Tyreek Hill in mph?

In 2016 the NFL's Next Gen Stats tracking clocked Hill at 23.24 mph on a 105-yard kickoff return against Houston (called back for holding) and 22.77 mph on an 86-yard free-kick return touchdown against Denver, the two fastest runs in the league that season. NBC Sports still listed the 23.24 as the fastest ball-carrier speed of the Next Gen Stats era in 2022.

Average speed across his 4.29 40 is 19.1 mph; game speed is higher because tracking catches him at full flight, while a 40 starts from a standstill.
